The Shoe Imp.^® may be your answer

As time goes by, the foot has a tendency to flatten. When this happens, you need longer, though not necessarily wider, shoes. Unfortunately this still does not resolve the problem of the flatness of the foot. 

In the past, all we had to remedy poor fitting shoes were insoles and heel grips. Insoles lift your toes up into the roof of the shoe where they rub and cause corns and calluses. Heel grips push your whole foot forward and it is painful pressure on your toes which holds you back if you have a fairly flat foot.  

As footwear retailers, we had one particular customer with exceptionally difficult feet, who presented us with the interesting challenge to help her shoes stay on without using either heel grips or insoles.

Well the glove had been thrown down, the thinking caps were on and we came up with a prototype Shoe Imp.^® which solved the problem as long as you were using a relatively high fronted shoe.

What is a Shoe Imp.^® ?

A Shoe Imp.^®, short for 'Shoe Fit Improver', is a small leather pouch enclosing an adjustable air sac. It fits above the foot directly under the tongue of a lacing shoe or the upper of a slip-on shoe. It performs the same function as laces, which is to hold you down and back into the heel. The position of the Shoe Imp.^® is demonstrated in the following pictures:

The Shoe Imp.^® comes in two parts - an outer and inner.

The outer part is a lovely soft nubuck leather pouch, 60 mm. wide by 65 mm. tall with a Velcro closure at the top. On the back of the nubuck case is a Velcro hook circle which is placed up against a piece of soft self adhesive Velcro which comes with the kit and you place that up inside the shoe to keep the Imp. in place.

Inside is a small rubber air sac with a long neck, which can be inflated with as much or as little air as required. You do not usually have to blow into it , it is already fairly full of air and transferring the air in the neck as you roll it down  plumps it up into a nice soft cushion.  

In other words you have a small adjustable system to hold you down and back exactly where laces would be on a tie shoe.
